Procedure: We specifically tested extracts for antibiotic activity by: collecting plants then weighing the plants to 2 grams next we added 10 ml of water or alcohol. We then filtered the extracts through paper and made agar plates. Then store extract at 4 degrees C so it can solidify.
Why: We did this project to find potential treatments for disease. By going through this procedure we can also find antibiotics that are found in some plants. Why its important: We need to do these procedures to find new solutions to cure diseases and bacteria based ailments. Result: We expected the positive plate to come out with no or little bacteria and the negative plate to have bacteria all over it. But after doing the procedure my result came out unexpected and bacteria had grown all over both of my plates even the possitive plate which shoes our plant as non anti-biotech or anti-bacterial. Errors: Due to the positive plate having bacteria it shows we had an error in some part of pouring our plates and maybe not adding the correct amount of materials to the plates. Conclusion: I enjoyed this project very much and found finding medicines intreging. I hope to do something like this in the future and re visit this project to eliminate all of our possible errors. |
